Spirituality-affirming counselling is a therapeutic approach where your religious or spiritual identity is treated as a vital resource rather than a secondary detail. In our sessions, we view your connection to the divine, the natural world, or your ancestors as a source of "insider knowledge" and profound strength. We invite your spiritual values into the room as active allies in your healing process.
-
Narrative Therapy starts from the premise that you are the expert in your own life and faith. Instead of applying a "one-size-fits-all" psychological model, we explore the stories and values that shape your worldview. This allows us to de-colonize the mental health process, moving away from culturally-loaded frameworks to honor the unique ways you find meaning and resilience.
-
We are committed to providing a culturally safe space for practitioners of traditions that are often underserved in Australia, including:
Eastern & Dharmic Traditions: Such as Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Caodai.
Ancient & Middle Eastern Faiths: Including Yazidi, Zoroastrianism, Alevism, and Alawite traditions.
Earth-Based & Nature Religions: Including Paganism, Druidry, and Wicca.
Ancestral & Traditional African Religions: Respecting lineage-based and community-specific practices such as Ifá, Bakongo, Lukumi and Candomble
-
Many people from minority traditions face a "double burden": managing their mental health while simultaneously defending or explaining their faith to a provider who may not understand it. We aim to eliminate this burden by addressing the specific challenges of practicing a minority faith within a dominant culture.
-
Explanation fatigue occurs when you have to spend your therapy time educating your counsellor about your faith instead of doing your own work. Our commitment to you means Zero Explanation Fatigue; you will never have to "justify" or explain your ceremonies, sacred spaces, or core beliefs to us. We enter the space with the spiritual literacy needed to support you immediately.
In-person in Adelaide, and telehealth throughout Australia.
Counsellor & Narrative Therapist, Jonathan Breach, recognises that your spiritual identity isn't just a "background detail"—it is often the very map you use to navigate the world. For many in Australia, finding a therapist who respects non-mainstream or minority religious traditions can be a daunting task.
Traditional clinical spaces often operate from a secular or Western-centric lens that can inadvertently pathologise or dismiss deeply held spiritual experiences. We do things differently here.
